A Different Blue

Amy Harmon2013
Blue Echohawk doesn't know who she is. She doesn't know her real name or when she was born. Abandoned at two and raised by a drifter, she didn't attend school until she was ten years old. At nineteen, when most kids her age are attending college or moving on with life, she is just a senior in high school. With no mother, no father, no faith, and no future, Blue Echohawk is a difficult student, to say the least. Tough, hard and overtly sexy, she is the complete opposite of the young British teacher who decides he is up for the challenge, and takes the troublemaker under his wing. This is the story of a nobody who becomes somebody. It is the story of an unlikely friendship, where hope fosters healing and redemption becomes love. But falling in love can be hard when you don't know who you are. Falling in love with someone who knows exactly who they are and exactly why they can't love you back might be impossible.

This book started slower, and I actually considered DNF'ing it. I'm so thankful that I didn't!
I loved this book. Once I got past the English lectures, I flew through it. Admittedly, the lectures were such small parts of the story, literally just three pages max, but I got flash backs to college or something and felt my attention start to drift away (SMH at myself).
I loved the chemistry between the characters (once I got past the teacher aspect, thankfully they were 20 and 22ish or I would've died. No Arya and Ezra, thankfully), and was interested in what happened with them.
The characters journey was so touching, and I loved to see where Blue went and where she came from. Jimmy and Icas (poor little pup) were felt through the flashbacks, making them characters I actually cared deeply about; even if they were super minor and characters that we already know what happened to them.
Alas, what a great read. 10/10!

A Different Blue was a captivating read and one of my more favorite fade to black romances but really this author writes the best romances that have very little spice to it. Which is refreshing to see stories that don't rely on the spice to deliver a powerful story. I was very nervous before reading this book. I never know what to expect with a teacher/student romance pairing. This is also a super slow burn but I really enjoyed how well this book was written. Many times with a teacher/student pairing, there is quite a bit of inappropriate discussions happening. But Amy Harmon really handled this setup so delicately and loved the way the accidental pregnancy was portrayed. It had a very honest approach to it that I found refreshing. I also appreciated how the Native American heritage was handled within this story. I was able to listen to this one in the format of an audiobook, and it was purely delightful to listen to. This author just has the best narrations for her books. They so easily draw you into the story and with how she writes being so slow burn, it's much appreciated there. The more and more that I read from this author, the more I respect this writing style and just want to read more of it.

WOW.... At some points I really wanted to cry in this book. I really liked it! I actually LOVED it!! Blue Echohawk is such a strong character! In this book, she did have some ups and downs and I will admit I was disappointed with her at some parts (she should've kissed Darcy waaaaayyyy sooner!). Speaking about Darcy.... mmmm... Mr. Darcy Wilson, may i just say, holy crappers!!!!! I loved him! and thank you Amy Harmon for putting a Pride and Prejudice connection in this book! I lovvvve Jane Austin and that link just made this story 10 times more better and FUNNIER! Some points of the book i was laughing so hard! Well done Harmon, this book is now one of my favourites!

❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ 5 Beautifully-Written Stars ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ "Once upon a time there was a little blackbird, pushed out of the nest, unwanted." After I had heard how good this book was from several people, I decided I had to read it. I bought it and left it in my to be read pile for a few weeks. What a big mistake! The book takes place over about two years time. It’s a romance but it’s also a story of a young woman finding herself, literally. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not one of those teacher/student romances. The romance comes much later in the book after the book takes some pretty major twists. There’s nothing simple about this story. Blue is unconventional and pretty much a smart ass most of the time, at least in the beginning. She is a loner but uses guys to keep from being alone. She is everything Wilson didn't know he wanted. "Sometimes the things we want to be rescued from can save us." I loved this book so much and I think it was because I loved the characters so much. The reader is taken on a very emotional journey with them. It was as raw and real as it gets at times. Keeping a box of tissues around while you read it probably would be a very good idea. I would categorize this as a new adult book or older young adult. It was very well written and I couldn't stop reading it. "The beauty of that poem is that everybody can relate, because we all feel like nobody. We all feel like we are on the outside, looking in. We all feel scattered. But I think it's that self-awareness that actually makes us somebody. And you are definitely somebody, Blue. You may not be a work of art, but you are definitely a piece of work." This book will stick with me for a long time to come. It's so much more than I ever expected! Give it a shot! LISTEN TO DARCY'S SONG TO BLUE HERE!!!
