Reviews

I went from absolutely hating the main character in the first books, to loving her so much in the end. I didn’t think a redemption would be possible. There were so many plot twists i didn’t expect and even the side plots had my jaw dropping and heart racing. I loved every single bit of it. However the only problem is that some of it felt a bit repetitive but that’s okay. Overall i loved reading the whole series, it was such a rollercoaster of emotions.

is there a thing called second love team syndrome cuz phoebe and silas took over my fixation for their outstanding performance ! i hope my lil warriors get their own book someday

The final book in the Secret Shanghai universe... While I was (and still kind of am, if my thesis is any indication) overly attached to the first duology in this series, I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this book in particular. It was a very fitting ending to this series and it was nice to see some familiar faces back one last time. Gong really weaves historical aspects into her narratives in a way that I didn't truly appreciate my first couple times around the original duology and now that I've become more familiar with it, I was able to pick up on just how much history is embedded in this book and all of her books. This one specifically is LONG, and it took me about 100 pages to really feel myself settling into the rhythm and being engrossed in it, but the payoff is absolutely worth it. After not really loving Immortal Longings over the summer, I was really hopeful that this one would be better and I'm so glad it was. There was lots of action, a lot of romance, and a lot of laughter because this cast of characters is amazing and I love them all. This series and these characters will always have a special place in my heart and it's bittersweet that it's over now.

3.5 stars high tide you will always be loved by me despite how dirty you were done in this book !!

5/5. this is by far my favourite in the entire series. this series means so much to me.

how can i ever express my over consuming love for this series? how do i put into words my sadness that lies with the ending of this book? the secret shanghai series made me fall in love with books all over again and has consumed my entire being. i’m so sad for this book to end but it was truly amazing i loved this book so much.

"Biăojie," Juliette Cai said, grinning. "Don't you recognize me anymore?"

"Don't die," she whispered. "I’m not done hitting you."
Seems fair

”Are you competing with me to see who can marry into the family first?"
Celia grabbed the nearest wooden spoon at once, tossing it in Rosalind's direction.
Rosalind shrieked, dodging out of the way. "You are!"
"Not so loud! The house is sleeping!"
Rosalind pretended to hurry into the living room. "Alisa! Alisa, get the flowers ready!"
Celia caught up to her, wrapping an arm around her head and clamping a hand to her mouth. "I should have absorbed you in the womb."

Silas nodded, offering a small smile.
I’m so fucking mad rn this isn’t even funny. Its such a good thing that Phoebe didn’t tell him

"Even if the memories never come back," he said slowly, "I’m going to love you again. I have decided to warn you in advance"
🥺🥺🥺

"I have to ask," Orion interrupted. "We are not talking about an actual foreign language, are we? Because I'm still working out if I speak Italian or not."
Oh Orion my sweet child. Please get better soon but also you’re lines are amazing like this

"I was not flirting-“
“I was."
HA

"You are my side.”
EVEN WITHOUT HIS MEMORIES 🥹😭

Three strides through the smoke revealed a small civilian vehicle, its engine still running and its tires mowed over the low garden fence, leaving the entire north side of the fence collapsed.
“Did you drive over that?" Rosalind hissed.
Alisa shot her a dirty look. "I couldn't see."

She gestured at Rosalind's shoulder. "Do you want me to pull that out"
Rosalind shook her head. "Poisoned. I'll bleed to death."
"You'll have to stitch it closed."
"Yes, thank you, mèimei how could I forget to stitch my wound closed in the middle of battle"

“Oh, he's here.”
“Oh, he's—about to stab her.”
