I really enjoyed this book. I didn't think it was as good as Pushing The Limits, but it was still pretty amazing. I think that Beth and Ryan are absolutely perfect for one another.

Wow. Going in I wasn't sure how to feel about it but the moment we got to Ryan, I was hooked. Beth in PtL wasn't my favorite but there was something I did like about her. In this, once we get some background on her story, again I was hooked. More like a huge ass fishing hook stabbed at my heart and took it for a ride. The dynamic between Beth and her mother is one I know well and I really connected with Beth more than I thought I would. I think I swooned harder for Ryan than I did Noah. Loving this series.

I liked it somewhat less than PTL so... 2.5 Ugh. I don't know. I like the writing, I devoured Beth's POV, had a few "Aaaaw" moments, but Ryan said and thought some stuff that bothered me. First book sting of the year. *insert faux cheer here*

Katie McGarry really knows how to write some messed up but lovable characters. I also enjoyed the writing in this one so much more than the first in the series.

Read more of my reviews at Secrets of Lost Words. Rating: C Dare You To is the story of Beth and Ryan. Pushing the Limits was one of my favorite books last year but I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted to pick this one up. It has a new set of characters and I find that Dare You To wasn't good as Pushing the Limits. Once again, both characters have some kind of issues and their relationship with each other helps them solve said issues. Beth needs to find who she wants to be and get over being responsible for her mom (who's a good-for-nothing). Ryan needs to stand up for himself and stop doing what his parents wants him to do. The two of them were brought together on a simple dare which turned into something more. As I said, this wasn't as good as Pushing the Limits. I was never really interested in Beth's love story so I kept my expectations low. I didn't find myself feeling for the characters or anything but this book kept me entertained. Beth actually annoyed me because of her unwillingness to let go of her mom and love Ryan. Yeah, that chick pissed me off sometimes. I would say congratulations to Ryan for not giving up no matter how difficult Beth was. If I was Ryan, I wouldn't have dealt with her. Dare You To is the sequel to Pushing the Limits that didn't quite live up to the first book. This still kept me entertained but I think this one is quite over-hyped.

This is by far my favourite addition to the Pushing The Limit series. I just loved the story line and I loved how in Pushing The Limits you only see Beth as this hard ass who hates the world but in this book you start to see different sides to her and not only did I love her character I fell in love with the way every character was portrayed (with the exception of the devils, Gwen, Trent and Ryan's dad of course). The best part about this book is no matter how many times I read and reread it, it's always as good as the first time and always makes me feel funny and emotional.

Dare you to: Spoiler Review She has done it again! I am in love with this book. I want more of these characters like now. It was the most cool bad girl and good boy story. But it was also so much more then that. It really showed how characters that seemed to have nothing in common could be the thing that the other person needs.   I loved learning more about Beth past in the book especially because she was side character in pushing the limits and came across as such horrible character in book one and now so much of her character has been described. It was interesting to see her with the good boy and how that effected her and how she wanted to be better.   I liked how long it took them to get together because with a relationship like this that was fraught with hate it took a while to get to the fact they have feelings.   I thought it was so cool how they played with good boy troup and how Ryan was not only a good boy who could play sports, but he was much more. I loved the added element of his own family drama and also his love of writing.   I always want more form this characters and maybe one day we will get   Check out my video review:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLL7s...

A good book. Almost a romance that can't and shouldn't work. The two characters have very different personalities and we get to fall in love with their story. Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. However, there are some trigger warnings you should look into before picking this book up. Also, I sometimes got annoyed with the characters in this book. Although I would still recommend this book it is worth the read and a very complicated but intense romance.

I'm a little bit disappointed with this one. I've really enjoyed Katy McGarry's other books this one however wasn't for me. There were some things I enjoyed and I found some of the humour really great. However as a whole the plot felt very rushed to me especially towards the end. There were a lot of gaps in time that made the story rather jumpy and also made it harder to connect to the characters. The characters were really interesting and I feel like Beth's character development in particular was done pretty well. Ryan's character was well written and I couldn't help but fall in love with him, I think he was a perfect love interest for Beth and the contrast between them was interesting. I also enjoyed how it ended, however; the path in which the plot took to get there was rather annoying. I found it predictable and the twists weren't executed in the best way in my opinion. It's worth giving it a read if only to see where Beth's story goes, and for Ryan of course.

Beth has had a really tough start in life, her father did not want her and ending going away, her mother was a drunk and drug addict that tended to look for the wrong guys. Apart from that her uncle, who promised to take her away from that life also abandoned her as a child. Now she is living at her aunt’s with Isaiah and Noah. However, when she takes the blame for something her mother did the only one able to bail her is her uncle, who just returned to live in their hometown. Beth is forced to live with him and behave following his rules, so he does not turn her mother to the police. Ryan is a golden boy; he has never lost a dare until he is dared to get a number from a punk girl that enters a taco bell. However, it seems like a second chance when that same girl appears to be the niece of his new neighbor, a baseball superstar he really admires. And not only that, but she is also moving in with her uncle. “Dare You to” was a compelling and really good book. This month I have verified that I love the contemporary new adult genre. They might not be the most profound and thought provoking books but I really enjoy reading them and even when the stories might be similar I love each one. This one deals with toxic relationships in a different way. Most people know of toxic relationships between couples, when even though the relationship is not good to one of the sides that person feels unable to let go. Nonetheless, what would happen when that other person is one of the person parents? Here we have Beth, unable to let go from her mother even if being near her is risky, dangerous and will not lead her to any good. When I was reading I tried to put myself in her shoes, and it is definitely a difficult situation, since it is her mother and she does not have anyone else. Moreover, coming to the realization that she had to let go of her because she could not keep going that way for long, was difficult and necessary for her growth. This was one of the best things about this book that the character grew helping each other while they fell in love. Ryan’s problems felt more cliché, but his growth was really developed perfectly as well. The only thing that I did not like about this book was the little the adults were involved in the story. They were one of the biggest problems in this kids life’s, and somehow their appearances were subtle. To sum up, “Dare You to” was a compelling new adult, coming of age book. I really loved it, and I would really recommend to anyone who likes the genre, since I am pretty sure it will captivate you.

Dare You To (Pushing The Limits #2) by Katie McGarry Rate: 5/5 Read Full Review: http://totally-bookalicious.blogspot.... Dare You To, like Pushing The Limits is packed full of drama, teen romance and a tale of finding out what you really want. However, even though Pushing The Limits has a lot of serious issues, Dare You To just seems a lot more grittier and real. The characters feel so real that my heart actually aches for them. I went into reading this thinking there would be no way that it can even compared to Pushing The Limits, well.....it was simply amazing. It was also in some aspects even better because of the nature of the plot and how the characters grow as individuals.

I love kissing books, but despite the hot chemistry this one missed the mark for me. I couldn't quite believe that various adults would continuously cover-up the massive mess-ups of Beth's mom (drugs, domestic violence, etc) just to keep her out of jail. I think older teens will still fall hook, line, and sinker for this and the newer titles in this series are excellent.

God, these books are just so good. I always read one of them if another romance has disappointed me. I loved the Bad-Girl-Good-Boy twist on the tale and there was enough plot and drama and comedy to keep me happy. OH AND NOAH AND ECHO BROUGHT OUT ALL THE FEELS. MY HEART. ❤ Looking forward to Isaiah's novel. 4 stars and a B for Dare You To.

* This review may contain spoilers for Pushing the Limits, the first book in this series.* After reading Pushing the Limits and really enjoying it, then grabbing Crossing the Line and loving it just as much, I was super excited to read Dare You To. I really loved Beth in Pushing the Limits, and I was soooo eager to see what would happen with her story next. It all starts with a dare. Ryan and his friends are known for daring each other to do some pretty crazy stuff. This time Ryan is dared to ask out the seemingly-untouchable misfit, Beth. It's not easy, but Ryan is determined to win. He never loses. Anything. Ever. He's the star baseball player, also has a gift for writing, and now he's under a dare to score with Beth. McGarry has a remarkable way of writing such unique, amazing stories, each very different, yet all compliment each other nicely. I can't even put it into words. Dare You To was very different from Pushing the Limits, in my opinion, and I even loved it more! I get completely burnt out with all of the bad boy stories, but the twist on this one was so refreshing. It was a bad girl (Beth) and good boy (Ryan) involved in this story, and I LOVED that about it!! Yes, some may find Beth and her snarky, sarcastic self very difficult to like... but I loved her! With such a terrible upbringing she felt forced to have a tough exterior to help her cope with her inner demons. Ryan had his own insecurities and difficulties at home, but he was much more of a loveable character with a good heart and kind actions. I loved how Beth wasn't all sparkles and rainbows. She was scarred from a horrible past. She wasn't perfect, and she didn't pretend to be. She was tough as nails, only softer when Ryan was able to drag it out of her. She was loyal beyond belief when it came to her mother and her best friends, Isaiah and Noah. Ryan brought out the real Beth that she so longed to see, yet didn't have the courage to bring out on her own. I have to admit I still found myself routing for Isaiah the entire story. There's just something about that guy I really like. So at first I wasn't a fan of Ryan... but he definitely grew on me. He seemed too perfect at first... so I liked how his flaws and troubles became apparent as the stories progressed, making him more likable and realistic to me. This was such an amazing story! I can't recommend this series enough. I just saw the cover for Crash Into You, Isaiah's story, and let me tell you I can't stand the anticipation for that book!!!! Isaiah has always been a personal favorite of mine throughout this series, so I'm really excited to see where his story will go. Thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin Teen for the review copy! Also posted at Booklovers For Life God, Katie McGarry. You are ruining my life. Not only did Dare You To cause me to not pay attention in class (because I just HAD to read during class. There was no way I was waiting til I got home to read), but also… my standards in guys are getting way. too. high. KATIE MCGARRY YOU ARE RUINING MY LIFE AND I LOVE YOU FOR IT. In case you didn’t already know this, I loved Pushing the Limits. Like, loved loved loved it. It’s one of my favorite books of all time, and one of the few books that have made my cry a huge, sobbing mess. I rarely ever cry for books (I get teary-eyed more often than crying), but Pushing the Limits was just… incredible. Heart-wrenching. Absolutely fantastic. So if you haven’t read it, you should definitely check it out. But Dare You To is quite different than Pushing the Limits. It has a whole different feel to it that is still simply amazing. We have already been introduced to Beth in Pushing the Limits, and her story is with Ryan. I was pretty surprised when I found out that Beth wouldn’t end up with Isaiah (whose book I am SO EXCITED to read!!!). But of course Katie McGarry would find a way to make everything work out in the end. And it did! Beth, at the start, is basically… a bitch. She’s very mean and pissy to everyone, including her uncle, Scott, and Ryan. But the thing is, I still liked her character. Yes, she gets very frustrating because of her hesitance and reluctance to have a relationship with Ryan, but I never hated or disliked her for her bitchy behavior. And honestly, her attitude is pretty reasonable, considering her mother is a drunk, a drug abuser, in love with her abusive boyfriend, and doesn’t give a crap about Beth. Beth’s deadbeat father left when she was young. She had no adult to take responsibility for herself and had to grow up on her own. So she’s definitely a tough girl. What I loved and was sad to see go away is Beth’s friendship with Noah and Isaiah. Once she moves in with her Uncle Scott, he wants her to cut all ties to her old life, including Noah and Isaiah. She meets up with them once or twice (and we get to see Echo!!!), but overall, she knows that she’s done with her old life. She’ll never have any best friends as awesome as Noah and Isaiah, but she can’t keep living in the past anymore. She has to move on, and Ryan is a huge part of that process. Ryan Stone. *swoon* Ryan is probably one of the sweetest, most incredible boys I’ve ever read. He’s not a bad boy. He’s a good guy through and through. I never expected to like reading about a jock, and a baseball player at that, but Ryan is just… amazing. I fell completely in love with him and his heartwarming gestures. Katie McGarry is able to write him in such a way that he has depth, that shows us how much he loves baseball, and that he’s so much more than a jock. And he loves to write too! Rarely do I ever read about a guy who loves to write and can write well, so it was a nice and refreshing change, one that made Ryan all the more endearing. And that bottle of rain. So. Damn. Sweet. My heart was going wonky for him during that scene. One thing I love is that Beth is very straightforward. From Pushing the Limits, we know that Isaiah is in love with Beth, but we’re not sure if she feels the same way. In Dare You To, once she meets Ryan and finds a connection with him, she knows that she’ll never return Isaiah’s feelings, because she loves Ryan. And I was so glad that she got that. She shot Isaiah straight down, didn’t allow him to be strung along on a love that would never work. I really liked that about Beth, admired and respected her for it. I loved seeing both Beth and Ryan grow and mature throughout the book. And the ending was so intense! So did not expect that. Basically, I loved everything about Dare You To, and am so so so excited for the 3rd book in the series to come out! I am 1000% sure that Isaiah’s story will be perfection. Liked this review?
