For fans of Circe, Shadow & Bone, and Serpent & Dove, you'll fall head over heels with this twist on the classic myth. /// Maiden, Daughter, Goddess of Spring. She has many names and none of them fit. Kore lives her life in a gilded cage, loved by all but understood by none. . . The ichor tastes bitter, but she's never felt such a thrilling sting. . . Then he calls her a new name. Persephone. Bringer of Death. . . . But the gods want them separated, and few can trick the Olympians. Of course she eats the pomegranate. He offers it to her with a promise to lay the world at her feet. But she only wants him. . .

1.star if I'm honest dnf at 15% perhaps? At chapter 9, lol. I just couldn't stand it. This is the very first time I dnf a book and I thought I was going to feel terrible, but I don't. Y'all know I'm a slut for Hades and Persephone myth, and I said "this retelling looks promising, good and oh my gods, I can't wait to read it", but, guess who's wrong? yes, I'm such a clown. We found Kore, the daughter of Demeter, who is her puppet too. Demeter basically has Kore in a damn cage and tells her that everything and everyone are mean. So, to prove her point, Demeter takes Kore (by her petition) to the Olympus... She is humilliated but Hades saves the day (influenced by Hermes, ok) and it's insta love. :D I hate insta love, but here it's like ??? what. To resume Hades thoughts about Kore, here are some: "Kore is so powerful." "Kore is so beautiful." "She doesn't know her power." Kore was so manipulated by everyone and that made me sick. I was sick, so GODDAMN sick. I'm sorry, but this book it's just not for me. :(

In case you didn't know, I love the story of Hades and Persephone, so of course, I love reading retellings of their history. Main characters Starting with our heroine Kore, who later acquires the name of Persephone, she was a character that I both loved and hated, let me explain, I loved it when she faced her mother and defended herself for being independent but because of her life in "captivity" really She was like a little girl at times, being too immature and in some instances with very low self-esteem which was annoying. Becoming a woman meant having control over her own body. Knowing what she wanted someone to do and allowing them to do that. Not having someone else decide what she could and could not do. Now Hades, probably my favorite god, was definitely everything I wanted him to be. Someone decisive, kind, and honest, I loved the patience and respect he had for Kore, he was an incredible character for the story, I just loved him, although I would have liked him to be a little more direct to avoid drama. “I know you don’t see the power you have, or the way the magic of the gods burns in your chest. But I do. You are a goddess equal to me.” Kore's low self-esteem created a lot of unnecessary drama but luckily it didn't last long as she thought things through and realized how immature she was, but it was still very stressful. Their relationship was amazing but very fast in the beginning, at first I was planning to give it 5 stars just for their relationship because they are seriously very explosive, but as I already mentioned unnecessary drama began to be created and I feel that it ruined their relationship a lot and took away a bit of the initial spark. “You are more than just a station in life,” Hades corrected. “And I would tear the stars from the sky to see what you are capable of, Kore.” Plot I think that in terms of plot we can all get an idea; Kore and Hades meet, fall in love, Hades kidnaps her and she becomes the queen of the underworld but must return to earth with her mother Demeter for 6 months. With this we have the book structured in three parts, the first tells us what Kora's life is like with her overprotective and controlling mother, and how she meets Hades. While the second part is when Hades kidnaps her and she adjusts to her new life, ending with the problems they have to go through to finally be together. With this, you can get an idea that it's a long book, which doesn't bother me generally but in this case, it does, because I feel there were many filler scenes that really didn't add much to the story, so it started to bore me but even so, it was entertaining enough for me to finish it, so I leave it up to you. Side characters As for secondary characters, I think obviously Kore's mother needs to be mentioned; Demeter, who is a goddess and the most unbearable character in all of history, I don't know if it was the author's intention but I just hated her. The way she treats Kore and how she raised her was horrible, a bad mother, period. The rest of the gods that appeared are also horrible, especially Artemis, I still can't believe what she made Kore go through. Cerberos was my favorite character, he deserves the world, he's the best watchdog okay. Hecate is a character that I hope has her own book because I love her, Thanatos was also an entertaining character although her appearance was not so important. “All women are my concern, Hades.” Hecate’s gaze turned to the side, down to the Lethe where so many female spirits drank to forget. “I know the ache of their souls.” Final thoughts To finish, it is a very good story, a bit long but it completely covers the history of Hades and Persephone giving it a different approach than usual and that keeps you entertained by waiting how their beautiful love story will continue, especially seeing how Persephone grows at the same time as the queen of the underworld was amazing. “Will I see you again?” The darkness in his eyes flashed with the fires of Tartarus. “Of course you will,” he replied. “Our story has just begun.” Is this book for you? Perfect for: Lovers of Greek mythology, romance and tales. Do I recommend it? Yes. TW: violence, sexual abuse, kidnapping. Heroine: 6/10 Hero: 8/10 Romance: 8/10 Type of Relationship: F/M Steamy Scenes: 4/10 Violence/dark scenes: 5/10 Plot: 7/10 POV: dual Type: series (standalone) Cover: 7/10 Things you might want to know about the book: Happy/sad ending? (view spoiler)[ Happy (hide spoiler)] Love triangle? Infidelity? Toxic relationships? (view spoiler)[ None (hide spoiler)] Tears-worthy? (view spoiler)[ No (hide spoiler)] Favorite Scenes: (view spoiler)[ When they met, it was magical and also when he went to visit her before kidnapping her (hide spoiler)] For what audience is it appropriate? Over 18 years.
