Cowboy and Octopus by Jon Scieszka and illustrated by Lane Smith is one of those picture books that made me do a double-take when I saw it on display at the library. My second immediate reaction was to slip it into my bag of books to check out. The book's illustrations are done as collage. Cowboy and Octopus are cutouts from comic books. They break free of their relative books and have a bunch of adventures which involve see-sawing, fixing something, Halloween and dinner together. When my son and I first read it, we couldn't find words to describe the book. But it's stuck with us. My son recently asked to check it out from the library a second time.
