The best thing I've read so far this year (with the possible exception of Montaigne).

The first thing I noticed from the book is how vulnerable the author is. How bare it is especially telling a tragedy. It tackles both the pov of the creator and creature.

Victor Frankenstein, full of love and life and has a bright future ahead. He made the creature out of his love from inventing and fascination of life but he flew too close to the sun and never thought of its consequences.

I knew villains if they were to invent a creature like him, they'll definitely either exploit him like using him as a circus display but I think those haven't existed at that time yet. And they'll definitely use him as a weapon to kill people. I knew there was an ongoing war in the story but Victor have never thought of using him or selling him. (Perhaps I've consumed many medias to know what evil people do)

But Victor ran away from the creature and that made the creature heart so wretched. I do understand that their reactions are warranted since the creature was made from stitched up parts of people. But I think Victor never thought about the appearance of the creature heck, he probably never thought that the creature would be alive.

I think Victor is an amalgamation of both Daedalus and Icarus. The first part of the story shows his strengths in creating and inventing like Daedalus who's a renowned inventor and architect in Greek Mythology. And the last part of the story is when he fall down like Icarus trying to catch the sun.

Now, where does the creature fall in the story?

Of course, he is the sun. The sun can make you warm yet it's the reason why Icarus took a fall. The Creature can be Victor's glorifying moment in the world of science as he invented a creature with its own mind, twice the size and speed of a human being. But instead of gaining fame, he lost a lot of people in the process. 

I guess this is where Victor's mental capacity comes forward. About how he handled the aftermath of his creation. For me, he is very human in this regard. Afterall he is just a normal person who is fascinated and passionate about his studies. 

Now the last part of the story is when Icarus comes in. Victor spent a lot of time chasing the creature to exact revenge from what he did. And in the end, nothing comes off from it. And this is where it ends.

Now who's right or wrong? No one. This is what fascinates me from the story because it was so humanely written. Mary Shelley captured the essence of human emotions and relationships. Even the creature who only observed the people and how they lived are able to make out human emotions. And in the end he was able to cry and mourn for his creator.

I honestly need a reread of the story to talked about some parts I didn't discuss here and to get another angle of the story. It is a great read indeed.
