Mercy A Novel
Reviews

I thought this book was going to be about a husband and wife dealing with their difference in morals and beliefs in regards to a very heavy subject (euthanasia). I also thought it would be about a man caught between his loyalty to the law as a police chief, and his loyalty to his family. And I guess those elements were there. But for the most part they were over shadowed by a husband cheats on his wife plot which I had no interest in. It dominated so much of the book sometimes it felt like that's what the book was about, and if I wanted to read that kind of story I would have sought out a book that advertised itself that way.

** spoiler alert ** I am a huge fan of Jodi's novels. I started to read them in 8th grade and she always keeps me wanting more more more. Mercy was no different. I was not expecting to get through this so quickly, but I couldn't put it down. I liked Allie the most, for reasons unknown, and had a Proud Momma (even though I'm not a mother? :D) moment when she sold all of Cam's stuff when she found out about Mia. I can identify with putting someone on a pedestal and the feeling afterwards when you find out that they're not exactly who you thought they were. And Cam. I was seriously so disgusted at him a lot of the time, that I considered just skipping the parts about him and Mia. Everytime I read about them being together, especially their little out of state rendezvous, this acidic feeling just worked its way into my stomach and didn't go away until Allie found out. I think that Jodi did such an excellent job with Jamie and Maggie's story. Like most people, I think that murder is wrong and you should be punished, but I agree with what Jamie did. If someone is suffering so much that the rest of the life they have left is going to be miserable, why shouldn't they be able to decide for themselves what's going to happen to them? It makes you think about what you would if you were in Jamie's situation. Such a great novel and so worth reading, as with all of Jodi Picoult's novels. (:
