If you would like to be able to undertake all the activities referred to in this book, it is recommended that you also purchase the Multimedia Activities Pack (Order Code S216/DVD/P3). This book looks at two topics in environmental science:Air - considers the influence of the atmosphere on conditions at the Earth's surface. The components of air, how they interact with one another and with the Earth are all considered. The properties and phenomena that make up our everyday notions of the 'weather' and 'climate' are introduced through observing and measuring elements of the weather. The final section explains the major components of the global circulation of the atmosphere and oceans and how they are related.Earth - looks at rocks and soils. This topic starts by investigating how rocks are formed with different compositions, in a variety of environments. This is followed by a study of weathering and the transformation of weathered rock into soil. It concludes with a look at the relationship between soils and ecosystems, and how they influence the environment. Throughout the book there are questions and activities for the reader to engage with. Answers and explanations are provided at the end of each section.
