That Second Chance

Meghan Quinn2019
USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn delivers a smart and cheeky romance about love's power to lift hearts . . . and curses. It was supposed to be an innocent night, celebrating my brother's birthday. Nothing was supposed to go wrong. We'd vowed to be on our best behavior after all . . . But it only took one rowdy night with my brothers to flip my world upside down. One unlucky encounter saddled us with a family curse and the promise of doomed relationships. I laughed it off immediately. "Yeah, right," I thought. "A love curse. Ha!" Boy, was I wrong. Word spreads quickly in a town like mine; rumors about that night soon made us the most eligible yet untouchable bachelors in Port Snow, Maine. As a subject of endless gossip and speculation, I could kiss my dating life goodbye. It would have stayed that way if Ren Winters, the new girl in town, hadn't crashed into my life. Brave, beautiful, and smart--her vivacious thirst for a fresh start has given me hope that maybe, just maybe, I can have one too. Everyone wishes for that second chance . . . but could this really be mine?

THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS, SO FAIR WARNING, UPON READING THE REVIEW. That Second Chance is the first book in the “Getting Lucky” series and it’s also the first book that I have ever read from this author. I have seen this author all over the place for quite a few years and I have loved seeing other romance creators and influencers rave about this author and her wonderful stories. I had always wondered what all the hype was about and now I definitely understand why she is so loved here. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one, I don’t always do so well with hyped books, they can go either way for me though so I never know what will happen. But with this author, I definitely am eager to try more of her work because “That Second Chance” was a story that blew my heart away, I had so much fun with it and it delivered in ways that I didn’t see coming. If you like THAT SECOND CHANCE IS A FUN AND SEXY ROMANCE SET IN A COASTAL SMALL TOWN THAT FEATURES: Griffin– an alpha mellow, widower, protective, strong, yet sweet. Ren– a feminine woman that is a teacher, kind and relatable, looking for a fresh start in her life That Second Chance is a story that starts off with our hero, where we see the setup of the story and the series. Griffin and his brothers are celebrating in New Orleans, but cross paths with a fortune-teller who sets a curse upon them and it didn’t become real until Griffin’s wife dies of a heart attack, and now the family believes that they are truly cursed from finding love and holding onto it. It’s now been two years and Griffin is still closed off from everyone, just going through the motions of life. Not believing that he is worth finding love or happiness and that he is to blame for his wife dying. Ren is moving from California all the way to a small town in Maine, as much as she loves her parents, she needs space to be her own woman and find out what she is capable of and needs a fresh start. But on her first day in town, she ends up running into a ditch thanks to a crazy moose, and who rescues her is none other than Griffin who works part-time as a firefighter. Griffin and Ren are complete opposites from each other, but there is a solid bond of friendship that builds between them from the very beginning, But there is a wall that Griffin puts around himself, and Ren along with the matchmaking machinations of his family, starts to weaken those walls, but only Griffin can put the past behind him and embrace the future with Ren who has taught him how to live again…. Ever since she’s moved here, Ren has wiggled her way into my life one conversation at a time, to the point that I get so goddamn excited whenever she’s around, my heart taking flight, my hands itching to touch her, to press her body up against mine, to finally find out what it’s like to feel her lips glide across mine. That Second Chance was such a delightful read and to be honest, I never expected that prologue to be such a beginning because it tore me apart but it also just pulled me into the story so quickly. I fell so hard for Griffin, from the very start of the story. We see such conflicting personality differences in him, and this definitely also has a “Grumpy Sunshine” feel to the story which really worked for me. The hero is so alpha at times but has a tender sweetheart so I would categorize him as alpha mellow. You will feel drawn to Griffin and see what losing his wife did to him, but then you see such growth as Ren enters his life who is like a ray of sunshine for him. Their romance starts off slow and steady, they bond pretty quickly as friends which turns into something deeper. Ren was such a delightful heroine, although at the beginning I was unsure haha she definitely won me over very quickly. I love her kind heart and how she is so devoted to the hero. And once Griffin starts to soften the walls that he has built, is where the romance really kicks off and the steam in this story is powerful and strong. So be ready for that, I am not always prepared for small-town romances to have such high heat content. Griffin and Ren being together just captivated my soul in such a remarkable way. This story embodies such a tender heart within its simple growths and challenges. The family dynamics in this one is truly superb in every way. This FAMILY just cracked me up and I just couldn’t get enough of it. I can’t wait to read the brother’s books. “Yeah.” She snuggles in close. “You’re Griffin Knightly, this untouchable man with a beautiful heart and a drop-dead-sexy body. It’s hard for me to imagine that the guy who pulled me out of my wrecked car is actually holding me right now.” Overall I found That Second Chance is a winning star of a romance that fed my romantic heart with soul and emotion that embodies all the aspects I adore in a sweet charming tale, Meghan Quinn is a solid author that I can easily get behind. This story satisfies in every way by delivering all the range of emotion and a deeply intimate love tale that captures the reader’s focus with blinding speed.

Oh, I absolutely loved this. I love the Knightly family and the small town full of community values and hot single men. Ren and Griffin were so beautiful and sweet and swoony and I thought this was a lovely story with some rather hilarious bits and banter. At one point I was laughing and crying at the same time, don’t think that has happened to me ever before.

3/5 Stars I read this on Kindle Unlimited. This was just an okay read for me. I might read the second book in this series and see how that goes to determine if I'm going to finish the series. . I just wasn't invested in the romance all that much. Sure it was heartfelt and kinda cute, but it just didn't hold my attention.

Find this review and more at kimberlyfaye reads. Y'all, how in the world did I let a second chance romance with a small town setting from one of my favorite authors sit and languish on my shelves for over two months? I'm so disappointed in myself. I am not, however, disappointed in That Second Chance. Holy cow, this book. It did SO MANY THINGS to my heart. It just might be my new favorite Meghan Quinn book. I mean, if I played favorites. That Second Chance grabbed me from the first few pages and didn't let go. I love a good prologue and Meghan knocked this one out of the park. There was no stopping once I got that little taste. I couldn't get enough of Griffin or Ren. Don't even get me started on the secondary characters. I'm so glad this series is set up to give each of Griffin's brothers their own books. I'm so greedy for all their stories. Griffin's story tugged at my heartstrings. The loss of his wife was palpable. As was his guilt over her passing, and his fear of the curse he's convinced caused her death. I hated that he was going through all that because he was such a great guy. It was obvious how much he loved his brothers, and I really loved the dynamic between them. Not only did it knock me in the feels a couple times, but it also made me laugh out loud more than once. I adored Ren, too. She'd been through her own challenges and moved to Port Snow to escape her past (and her overbearing parents). I appreciated her spunk and overall energy. I couldn't have shipped her and Griffin any harder if I tried. It was obvious from their first meeting, no matter how unconventional, there was something between them. I enjoyed watching them become friends and then ultimately grow into more. I loved everything about That Second Chance. It had everything I love about Meghan's books. I laughed, cried, swooned and fanned myself more than once. (That lake scene, yo. So flipping hot.) It was wonderful to see some old favorite characters, while meeting new ones. But now I need Rogan's story. It, too, is a second chance romance and I am here for it. I received a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Favorite Quotes: "Cupid hit my little brother with a giant moose. Oh, this is so wonderful." All I'm asking for is this one moment, this one instance, when I can forget about the past, forget about the curse, and life the life I wish I could have. "I can't even pinpoint a moment when I've wanted something as badly as I want your lips on mine."

Originally posted at Booklovers For Life 4.5 STARS I haven’t been THIS delighted in a book in a while! That Second Chance is one of the most charming romances I’ve ever read. It’s set in the small town of Port Snow, Maine, and legit, Meghan Quinn wrote this small town with so much heart that I wanted to move there. This was my first novel from Meghan Quinn as well, but you can be sure that it won’t be my last. I’ve become a huge fan of her writing and storytelling after reading this book. I’m absolutely dying for more of this series already! I love discovering a series that centers around a group of family members. With the Getting Lucky series, we follow four brothers who’ve had a love curse placed upon them after a rowdy night in New Orleans. Griffin is the eldest, and a widower. He believes in the love curse because only a few days after he and his brothers were ‘cursed,’ his wife passes away. He’s been going through the motions for the past few years now, working at the family fudge shop and volunteering as a firefighter. Everything changes when a new resident moves into their quaint small town, and he’s the first to greet her – by rescuing her after a moose-related car accident. Ren needs a new change of pace from her former life in Los Angeles. She chooses to move to the opposite side of the country to be a math teacher. It’s scary and overwhelming, but with the help of her first Port Snow friend Griffin Knightly, she easily finds a new home in this small town. I LOVE the fact that Ren and Griffin become friends first. Friends-to-lovers is my kryptonite, and the romantic development (which was paced perfectly slow and steady) felt so much more genuine between these two after they became friends. They are seriously adorable, taking trips around town, camping, setting up her new house together, all the while bantering playfully with each other. I loved every scene they had together and I couldn’t get enough of them. The main source of conflict for their romance is predictable, but I enjoyed the way it played out. The love curse is a little cheesy, but I really had no problem with it! What makes That Second Chance such a solid small town romance is how real the town and its inhabitants feel. The Knightlys are such a charming family and all their friends are hilarious and sweet. Meghan Quinn has me so invested in this town and characters now – I can’t wait for each of the Knightly boys to get their own books. I only hope I’ll love them as much as I did Ren and Griffin!
