The Other Side of the Mic
The Other Side of the Mic is about a pilot and controller, mainly from the controller's perspective. It covers 1900 to 2050 and includes the struggles of the Wright brothers, airplane manufacturers, airplanes, early airmail service, war heroes, test pilots, airlines, pilots, and air traffic control. The book also includes my experiences as an air traffic controller at Edwards AFB (EDW), California, during the jet age in the 1950s and my fifty-eight years in ATC or supporting ATC. The book includes a story about George Welch. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor in 1941 when it was attacked. It's also about how rapidly the airplanes improved during WWII and how Cpt. I give a little background for the nonpilot, or passengers, on a commercial flight. I communicate how the pilot and the controller work together for a successful flight. The last chapter is about after my retirement, and I share my vision of the future of aviation. Each decade includes some fun facts, a snapshot of that point in history. I hope you enjoy them. I did
