Useful content, however the swearing and slang felt forced and unnecessary.

wasn’t awful or wrong but definitely a book for beginners with this stuff. i didn’t find anything insightful or new. there’s a point about needing to employ a more decolonizing view of therapy that i can’t quite piece together right now but would probably help this book out if i could articulate it.

This might be too critical, but as an audiobook that was approximately 4 hours, as soon as I started to play it, it sounded off. It sounded like the author wasn't using professional recording equipment, because there was an echo of sorts in the background. Additionally, while speaking, the author seemed to jumble her words at times, and I heard other background noise. I had a hard time keeping up with her descriptions of the brain and how it works. I felt like she went through things too quickly? I don't know, but I wasn't a fan. I didn't take much away from this book.

A good beginner book

thoroughly enjoyed the book and harpers white humor but it’s not my usual taste. lovely author nevertheless.

Too much swearing which makes to book distracting to read. The audiobook is specially bad as the audio quality is horrible.

the book is very-cussy. If that's going to bother you, you may not want to read it. However, the content, approach to healing/treating various mental illnesses, and just down-to-earth-ness of the book made it a JOY to listen to. As a fellow South Texas lady, I felt like I was having a great, open, frank, smart conversation about mental illness. I learned a lot to help myself and to be a better supporter to those around me.
