ngl i only read this for zee and john but xanadu is just <3 and i actually started to like dove ?? which i didnt in the titans tv show but in comics she’s alright ig anyways this is all i’m gonna talk about for the next 5 days at least

This graphic novel did a good job at making me fall in love with this incarnation of Justice League Dark, despite having an art style that I wasn’t particularly fond of. I loved these characters, even the ones I were meeting for the first time. I found these characters to be much more compelling than the normal Justice League as they explored horror tropes and themes.

So, the only reason I got into this series was that the second and third volumes were written by Jeff Lemire. So hopefully those volumes do the series justice since this one certainly didn't. The concept is obviously great, do have a dark team. But unfortunately it was done in a very messy way, especially since I don't know anything about these characters. I wish it was taken more slowly and carefully showed each character and what they had to offer, then introduce the threat. This was just all over the place, introducing characters half way through the book while stuff is happening everywhere else. All in all, a mess. Hopefully Lemire redeems it with the later volumes.

While I'm familiar with the Justice League, I have no idea who any of the "Dark" characters are. And I still don't. The story was all over the place and most of it didn't make sense. What was the reason Xanadu separated the Enchantress and June Moone? Was it just to bring these heroes together? Weak. And why is Xanadu any expert on anything? Her Drug addled mind hardly makes her a leader or reliable source of any sort. How did they all suddenly have nightmares that were a glimpse into the future? Where did that come from?? It all seemed so disjointed and the only character that had any depth was Deadman. I'm hoping that more will be explained in later issues. I don't plan on buying anything else until I see where this is going. The only redeeming quality was the artwork.

Yeesh. I didn't enjoy that at all.
