It was a fun short read, but not upto the mark when it comes to Christie!

I guessed the ending at the climax, but it’s always interesting to see how it plays out in the middle. Great book (and author) to get you out of a reading slump.

** spoiler alert ** This was my first Agatha Christie novel and I definitely get why she’s considered the queen of true crime writing: her engaging writing style is fantastic, and she manages to treat serious heavy topics with such ease and lightness. The mystery was very good. Not gonna lie, from about the midway point I was very convinced it was either Josephine or Sophia. Towards the end I got weary of Edith, and Sophia wasn’t as suspicious to me, but ultimately I think I cracked this case pretty much. Most characters were very well developed and their potential motives were very interesting. I specially liked characters complex like Philip, Clemency and Magda, specially this last one was very interesting to read about: you never really knew wether she was speaking truth or puting up an dramatic act, and it was great. Just overall it was a very good read, very easy to follow and well developed. It’s only short of five stars because for how shocking the twist ending was supposed to be, I was a little disapointed that I had figured it out. I’d be curious to lend this book to someone else and see if they figured it out as easily. But still, makes me want to read more Agatha Christie.

unpredictable and fun as always

Excellent example of Dame Christie's superb insight into human nature.

Would definitely think about it for days. There were so many clues right in front of me, yet I didn’t catch on because every little thing was so masterfully interwoven, that one won’t know where to find the start and end of the rope of this mystery. You just have to keep reading and let it untangle by itself towards the end when every detail comes together to fit perfectly into the puzzle. That is the magic and the sublime craft of the queen of crime. You won’t be able to untie the convoluted knot of the story in between but by the end you would feel satisfied as if you knew the answer all along.

Poor child. The house being connotative to family, they are crooked.

josephine really carried this book

Crooked House is a story about a murdered grandfather in which all of the family members have motives as the killer. Agatha Christie is successfully explore the thrilling experience of Leonide family. Everyone has secret and reason to be a murder but it took one motivation to kill. P.s. You would be surprised by the real killer at the end of the book

I see why Christie called it one of her best. I just wish I was an innocent 16 year old and hadn’t figured it all out right off the bat. It really sucks to be a well-read adult sometimes.

4.5 Stars I’ll admit, I was still a bit sulky over how much I disliked Endless Night. It was the first time I’ve ever hated an Agatha Christie book, and it left a sour taste in my mouth. But every author has ups and downs. Considering how prolific Christie’s career was, it is downright amazing that she turned out such a high percentage of good, original work. No wonder she is called the Queen of Mystery! So I jumped back into her oeuvre with Crooked House, and I’m right back to cheering for her. Crooked House is a standalone mystery written and set post WWII. Charles Hayward fell in love with Sophia Leonides during the war. Now he has returned to England to get married. But on the eve of his return, Sophia’s grandfather, the rich patriarch of her family, was murdered, and suspicion hangs heavily that someone in the family must have committed the murder. Charles who is also the son of the Assistant Commissioner of Scotland Yard, is caught in-between the woman he loves and the pursuit of justice. “I think people more often kill those they love, than those they hate. Possibly because only the people you love can really make like unendurable to you.” The story completely kept me guessing. I was totally engaged in the mystery and the characters’ actions. The story was just the right length to build everything up without being too abrupt or too drawn out. The tension and atmosphere build excellently. This was a delightful, devious little read! RATING FACTORS: Ease of Reading: 4 Stars Writing Style: 5 Stars Characters and Character Development: 4 Stars Plot Structure and Development: 5 Stars Level of Captivation: 5 Stars Originality: 4 Stars

Not exactly what I was expecting. It was a little bit boring.

This was alright I guess. I'm aware of how this is going to sound but - I pretty much suspected who the murderer was and I turned out to be right which was disappointing

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I agree with Dame Agatha. This was one of her best.

أول رواية أقرأها من النوع دا وأول رواية لأغاثا كريستي برضو، إستمتعت بيها بشكل كبير.

First and foremost, it is DAME AGATHA CHRISTIE, therefore I don't have to say much about her writing. She had me wondering who the murderer was and kept me reading till the very last page. Every time Charles spoke to a member of the Leonides family, not only did he have to keep changing his theory, but so did the reader. That is the power of Christie's writing, as much as the strength of her storyline. I liked how no one was exempt from suspicion in this one. I honestly lost track of how many times I switched between all of the characters. I didn't have it every time I thought I did. I liked how well the phrase 'crooked' describes their house, the members, and their personalities. It ends a little abruptly, but it's not a major concern. I was thoroughly engrossed while reading Crooked House, and I appreciated the relentless interrogation. I mean, it baffled me while I was trying to figure out what was going on, but the finale completely blew me away. In every sense of the term, the plot was well-crafted. The mood was fantastic and ideal for a fall or winter book, and it kept me fascinated.

LO SABÍA LO SABÍA LO SABÍA me siento Sherlock Holmes dejadme

3,5* Las últimas páginas me han puesto los pelos de punta

I really liked this book, good old classic crime mystery novel with a few surprises. I didn't guess the culprit until halfway through which is really good considering I fanatically watch crime series since I was 5. I'm looking forward to reading more of Agatha's novels.

AWESOME

This has been described to me many times as Agatha Christie's best book, and I absolutely agree (not that I have read a ton of her work)! This is such a great mystery and I did not call the twist! This is why she's the best.

Audiobook! I really liked this one! I was flabbergasted by the murderer and really liked the entirety of the ride to the end of the investigation.
