This is a story of a long friendship that wasn't quite what it seemed, Things from Beyond, and trying to Save the Earth From Them. It was fine. I just found it exhausting to read. The two main characters are always running, running, running, all over the globe, with all difficulties magically paved over by money. I kept wondering why the two main characters hadn't collapsed completely in the first half of their journeys. I'd had this book for a while. I started reading it a while back, and kinda bounced off. It's just difficult for me to stay with. You really never get a fucking break from action until right at the end. We read this for my SFF book club. I'm glad to have it done.

This book finished much better than it began. It took a lot of trudging for me to get to the end. A lot of cool concepts, but it didn't feel like much groundwork was laid for them, just a lot of jet-setting and random things clearly to make everything more chaotic, but still felt unnecessary. Even by the end, I couldn't paint a clear picture of what the demons looked like, or why there were different kinds. It seemed haphazard as a way to introduce new ~monsters~. idk. not a terrible book but not my favorite either.
