Bridgerton: The Duke and I. Netflix Tie-In Inspiration for the Netflix Original Series Bridgerton
Reviews

Enjoyable period romance that is witty and rather touching in places.

The story goes quite deeply, yet it is written in such a light, funny and easy way it does not feel this deep to read.
I had so much fun reading this book, i couldn't put it down after the first page. It really quickly became one of my comfort reads that I know I'm going to tend towards rereading when I just want something to shut off.
I love it!

This was such a fun and an off brand read for me. I enjoyed it so much though, and really just got absorbed by the whole atmosphere and feel. I typically am not a timepiece gal, but this just came together so well and the characters had more depth than what I was anticipating. I am so excited to watch the show now!

Necesitaba las risas y la ligereza

I liked it. You learn more about the characters, but I think I prefer the series. Maybe because I watched that first.

god, it was so difficult to stomach

The series literally doesn’t portray the love enough. Like huhhh?? This book was soooo good. The way Daphne heals this mannnn *chefs kiss*. Anyways about to read book 2 because I’m hooked now.

This book was pretty good. It was a quick read and I do enjoy period pieces. I think I will continue to read the rest of the series.

It’s fine. The second epilogue is unneeded

Let me preface with that I listened to this book which isn’t my usual reading method and this is after I have already watched the tv show.
I’m conflicted on how I feel about reading the book. It’s actually wild for me to say that I enjoyed the show format than the book of something. There were a few things that I enjoyed from the book like how Daphne’s family was more included than what was seen in the show. Which is ironic knowing the plot line of the season. Then the focus of Simon and his struggles was better in the book for me. Other than that I think the show was more entertaining than reading it. Which I think will make reading the rest of the books very interesting.

Why is everyone white

Actually only decided to read this book because of the Netflix series. I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy it as much as I did. I loved the playful banter between Daphne and Simon, and of course the three protective older brothers.

The pre-relationship banter and the helicoptering big brothers were honestly the best parts of this book. Otherwise, big meh from me. Goes from “hey, let’s do this fake dating scheme” to “oh we’re in love” very quickly. Plus, the reproductive coercion/marital r*pe was glossed over & forgiven way too quickly. None of the family members & side characters are as multi-dimensional and interesting in this book as they are in the Netflix adaptation.

Nothing like the series, quite boring at the beginning but it grew on me as i was reading.

Continuing on with this serious 100%
I think the plot concept (all romance aside) is actually pretty unique, and overall the book is a super light, entertaining, quick read. I found myself laughing quite often at some of the jokes, and sometimes also at things that weren't meant to be jokes, but were funny to me anyway.
I will say that I much prefer the dialogue of the TV show adaptation much better, the book felt just a little bit too modern in parts and as someone who loves historical fiction and historical romance, nothing brings me out of a time period more than unrealistic dialogue.
But even then, I still really enjoyed this book, I can forgive the dialogue pretty easily, it was really my only critique.

The book is addicting! And it’s also an easy read. You fall in love with the characters, and the writing is very good. My only note is that I didn’t like the … spicy moments.

I loved the show so I was really looking forward to reading this book. I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed reading it and seeing all the little differences between the show and the book. I love daphne and simon and enjoy their relationship together.

There are definitely some problematic stuff in it but besides that still enjoyable.

funny, charming and overall stunning

2.5 stars. did like the book, the rape scene ruined it

it was so good…. until it wasn’t 🙃 little too SA for my taste but it was literally so so good until then so i think i’ll continue with the series. hoping that it picks up for the better

“Bridgerton - The Duke and I : Daphne’s Story” by Julia Quinn
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars.
Fake dating trope
1800’s Regency Period Rom-Com.
I am late to the game on Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series. But I am so glad these were scooped up by Netflix because now I’ve found a new favorite author and new favorite series.

I read the book after I watched the series on Netflix and I have to say the book was a bit underwhelming. It didn't pay any attention to the other characters which I find a bit boring compared to the tv series. All that said, it's a fun read.

Before I met you, I was only half alive.

"it is you i cannot sacrifice, i burn.. for you."

"you burn for me?"

"when one burns for someone who does not feel the same!"

"i am yours daphne.. i have always been yours"

"i cannot stop thinking of you..from the mornings you ease, to the evenings you quiet, to the dreams you inhabit..my thoughts of you never end"

"everything i told the queen was true"

How did you know I like emeralds?" she asked. I didn't, he admitted. "They reminded me of your eyes“

The duke took a step forward, his stance positively menacing. "Miss Bridgerton, I feel I should warn you that I am within an inch of strangling the information out of you.”

Violet looked at Simon. "Do you want to have this conversation with my son?"
"Not particularly."
"Fine, then. Anthony, be quiet.

Did you know I have always suspected that men were idiots," Daphne ground out, "but I was never positive until today.”

Men, she thought with disgust, were interested only in those women who terrified them.

He said so little, and yet she sensed that it all meant so much.

Violet blinked rapidly, and Daphne noticed that there were tears in her mother’s eyes. No one ever gave her flowers, she realized. At least not since her father had died ten years earlier. Violet was such a mother - Daphne had forgotten that she was a woman as well.

To say that men can be bullheaded would be insulting to the bull. LADY WHISTLEDOWN'S SOCIETY PAPERS, 2 JUNE 1813
