Full review now posted! Surprisingly, this volume was just as fantastic as the first. I was afraid that the quality would plummet after the first volume, as seems to happen with many graphic novel series. Happily, I was wrong! The plot thickens in Year Two of Injustice, and the fight balloons past a global platform and onto a galactic one. The Green Lantern Corps inserts themselves into the mix, and they’re not all on the same side. More heroes fall prey to their confused moral codes, either giving their lives for their cause or giving into the darkness. The dark turn that DC Comics has taken is recent years is fascinating and sad at the same time. There’s a part of me that thinks that superheroes should be above corruption, and I hate to see them brought down. However, I think it’s important to remember that everyone is fallible. But seeing them fall from the pedestals their cities have placed them on is tough to witness, even if they are all fictional. Watching Superman’s fall from grace has been painful and morbidly enthralling. I’ll be interested to see exactly how far he falls, and if he reverses his stance and sees the light again. Who will still be standing at the end? I’m dying to know, but I’m scared to find out. No one is safe, and there are some people I hate to see die. However, even in the midst of heartbreak, light finds a way to shine, as shown in the epilogue of this omnibus. I would like to give a shoutout to Harley Quinn and her role in this series. She provides just the right touch of comic relief when that relief is desperately needed. But she’s not just here for laughs. She bares her soul at one point, and the way she tries to laugh through the pain makes the moment all the more poignant. She’s a supportive, if often unwanted, friend, and she can step out of her villain shoes and into a hero cape if she feels like it. I just love her, and I love her role in this series. If the last three years of Injustice are as great as the first two, this series could prove itself worthy of my favorites shelf. Not just for graphic novels, but for any book series. So far, I can’t recommend it highly enough, and my fingers are crossed that the quality will be maintained for the duration.
