Addictive, catty, unexpected

One of Us Is Dead by Jeneva Rose had a lot of potential, but it didn’t quite deliver for me. The drama, secrets, and betrayals among a group of wealthy women in a small Southern town sounded like the perfect setup, but the story ended up feeling a bit over-the-top and predictable.
The multiple POVs were interesting at first, but they started to blend together, and the characters felt more like clichés than real people. I kept waiting for a twist to blow me away, but most of the “big reveals” were pretty easy to see coming.
That said, it’s not all bad. The book has a fun, gossipy vibe, and if you’re into messy drama and Real Housewives-style feuds, you might enjoy it more than I did. For me, though, it just didn’t leave a lasting impression. A quick, light read, but not one I’d rush to recommend.

Engaging but predictable at the end

i loved this. rich catty women who are borderline alcoholics and their idiotic husbands. the timeline jumps. the different POVs. i had fun with this. it wasn’t the most elaborate or shocking ending, but i enjoyed it nonetheless.

Definitely didn’t see that twist coming.

I think this is a better audiobook than paperback

this is what we call “mad women”. i loved it.

SO many secrets!!!! Loved the character development and showcasing how the relationships built on each other! Loved It!

Loved the multiple POVS and how we didn’t know who died until the end. Real house wives meets murder mystery.

These ladies are crazy. Lots and lots of drama. Olivia was well written. She was the worst.

I wanted a quick read to get me out of my slump. This book did the trick. I liked ‘The perfect marriage’ by jeneva rose so I figured I’d give this a shot too. I liked how both of these books I thought I knew the ending, and I was proven wrong each time. This book was a quick, fun read and the ending definitely made up for how I thought the story was going!

This was like Real Housewives but on more steroids and with more insanity. Love that we didn’t know who died until the very last 3% of the book. Also love that this was told in multiple POVs (the narrators were amazing).

4.5 stars I really enjoyed this book!

Out of all the “housewife” thrillers I’ve read, this one features the most evilest villain ! She is full of greediness, just starving for power and control over the whole town of Buckhead. Of course the women of Buckhead are known for being plastic/beautiful, wealthy, and downright vicious, but some of them do have a good heart! in this book we meet different women: Shannon has always been the most powerful woman of Buckhead…until now. Her politician husband, Bryce, divorces her and remarries a younger woman. Which makes Shannon used goods. ( I truly felt bad for her because she really loved her husband and well things dont go the way we want them sometimes.) Olivia has been dying to be the queen of Buckhead for years, and finally gets her chance now that Shannon isn’t married to a powerful man. (Olivia will do anything to be on top, and doesn’t care who gets hurt along the way. She also doesnt care for anyone except for herself.) Crystal is the younger woman who marries Blake. She comes from Texas and has never been around wealth. She is only obeying her new husbands commands and kind of wants to make friends as well? She just doesnt know what she will get herself into with these women. Karen works hard for what she has, and is the only one with both a husband and child. She shows herself to be a true friend to the members of her group in their time of need. Jenny owns a salon that all of the women are serviced at. Just like a bartender or cab driver, she’s privy to plenty of tantalizing secrets. But thats not all! She gets herself into trouble when this new young woman: Crystal comes into town and well she also has to attend to her.. But hey , she also realizes she is not only The help, as she thought she was. She realizes she has friends too. I liked her too. the only wrong thing in these woman is that they kind of know too many secrets and well, keeping one of the many secrets will get someone killed! haha Ok so like i mentioned, I definetely liked these women except one. im not sure if that is how the author wanted the villain to be potrayed or not but that is how its seen? She was just too self centered! ANyway, the genre of the book speaks for itself. we need to find out the answers to the mistery. & the mistery is knowing who of these women and women's husband killed and who GOT killed. this book is written in Past time with multiple POVs and Present time with jennys POV. although present time is only in the book to show that the murder already happen and jenny is telling the story to the investigator that is doing his job. These different POVs were successful in building suspense to question if these women were capable of murdering in order for their secrets to be kept.. so YES! I loved the book! this truly felt like i was watching a Tv show! Some of the characters are so conceited and wickedly deceiving. There are also some I rooted for. This is definitely a popcorn thriller 🍿, and so well done at that. I just loved it, and look forward to reading more from this author because she knows how to keep the identity of the persons who killed and who got killed truly hidden until the end!! Now, with all that said, im giving this book 4 stars because the ending got rushed all of a sudden and it left me with some questions unanswered. but other than that it was great! defintely reommend.

murder mystery meets real housewives of atlanta vibes

I seen this book mentioned by the authors husband on tiktok, and immediately ran to netgalley to request it. this book is EVERYTHING. if you like drama filled tv shows, book with multiple povs where everyone is unreliable, elite families with plenty of secrets to hide - you have to read this. i was immediately captured into this book from beginning to the end. it was a constant flip back of ‘what actually happened? who actually did it?’ you don’t know who’s murdered, motivation, suspects - anything. you find little clues out throughout the story through gossip between these rich southern women. who, by the way, make amazing characters. they’re so cunning, and sly that you never know who’s actually telling the truth. what piece of gossip is real, and if what happened really happened in that way. the subtle details the author puts throughout the story so you can connect things together was so perfect, i found myself reading it then thinking ‘wait’ and flipping back to other pages and it was so well done. i love how the book took place in buckhead, since that’s so close to me. it felt like an everyday story you’d heard being gossiped about, or read in an article - the author got the personalities for these type of women down pat! it made for such a comical, and enjoyable mystery. the ending really did have me shocked, i know i’ve seen a few people say that it was rushed but i think it was paced well honestly. i think it made a way bigger impact, and made you think ‘wait, wtf?’ i overall really enjoyed this, thank you netgalley for my e-arc!

This book is not for everyone!! it is a Real Housewives thriller so it is alot of fake friends and gossip and status. BUT there is also scandal and secrets and murder! so i think that makes this a near perfect story! the multiple pov can be confusing at times but i like getting to really understand each persons motives and thought process throughout the book!!!

I LOVED this book! The audible was amazing. I'm not sure if I would have loved it so much if I physically read this, though. Super fun read and kept me interested from beginning to end. Desperate housewives vibes for sure!

Thank you Netgalley and Blackstone publishing for the chance to read and review this!
I’d heard a lot about one of us is dead. Like it seemed like a really hyped up book and I was super excited when I was approved for it on netgalley.
My favourite part was when Shannon called Olivia an idiot for making the book at the book club vogue.
I really had to make an effort to get through it though, because it was just a little less than okay! The characters felt really odd; I mean I watch the real housewives and WAGS and a lot of reality TV shows, and it kinda felt like the author had based these women off one of those. You know, it’s like the conversation is so fake between all of them. And not in a these women are all playing games with each other, but more like this is scripted dialogue from a reality tv show. It’s like when people are trying to have meaningful conversations and you’re like no, no one talks like this.
Anyway, this kinda went into my dislike pile, and I only got through it because its a skimmable read and under 300 pages. I mean was it necessary to do the whole shes going for a fake domestic abuse thing?
I’m also very sure I’m probably going to read another Jeneva Rose book, the same way I watch reality tv and read regency romance. So make of my review what you will.
