The Last Witness
Reviews

"After all, what is truth but the consensus of memories of reliable witnesses?" What indeed? And how reliable are the witnesses, how reliable CAN they be if their memories can be removed or wiped out? I just finished watching Jessica Jones on Netflix. The protagonist in this story made me think a little bit of Kilgrave. This character is not quite as malignant as Kilgrave, but he does have power over other peoples' memories. If he wants to have it, anyway. K.J. Parker: not always likable, but usually pretty interesting. This was no exception. This was one of Scribd's free audio offerings for December 2015. Narrator was good, and at a bit over 3 hours, the book was a nice tidbit for the middle of the day.

This novella is about memory, one of my favorite abstract concepts in fiction. The characters are complex with ambiguous morals and the writing is light and easy to follow. I absolutely love how K.J. Parker crafts complete stories in short form.

4.5 stars. Really liked this, although I had to rewind the audiobook a few times when the lack of names made things a bit jumbled. K.J. Parker sure loves pronouns and morally-challenged characters.
