When General Chu offered Starflake the position of Deep Space Ranger Cadet, Star wasn't certain she was ready to give up her freedom as a Cosmic Sprite, a creature who can live in space without any life support, but out of respect for General Chu she agreed to give it a try. Her fellow cadets harassed her and when she scored the highest rating in her every test, she was forced to into hand-to-hand combat with the lead tormentor, Corporal Ogre. While she was training, a deadly force was gathering in a hidden section of the galaxy, a fleet of pirate ships was growing more powerful every day, under the command of Admiral Sun. A spy aboard Admiral Sun's flagship was feeding important data to the DSR but the spy's position had become dangerous and the only one the spy trusted to extract her, was Star because the spy was Star's fellow Cosmic Sprite, Constellation.
