I enjoyed this book way more than I thought I would. This book really surprised me. I really enjoyed it and I am excited about the next book. 

The characters in this book were so creepy and fun. I don't know which one is my favorite. 

The plot in this book was also super weird. I felt like it changed plot in the middle of the book. I think I am the only one though.

Amazing how images not only holds stories but also creates them. Spectacular first novel.

En ödslig ö. Ett övergivet barnhem. Och en samling märkliga fotografier. Sextonårige Jacob tror inte längre på de historier hans farfar brukade berätta för honom. Skrönorna om barnen med märkliga förmågor är bedrägliga minnen från hans farfars barndom, och samlingen med sepiatonade fotografier är såklart bara ett av farfars alla påhitt. Men omständigheterna kring farfaderns död tar Jacob till en avlägsen ö utanför Wales kust och till de fallfärdiga ruinerna av Miss Peregrines hem för underliga barn. Bland dess övergivna rum och ekande korridorer kan Jacob inte motstå en djupdykning i sin farfars förflutna och snart inser han att barnen i huset kan ha funnits i verkligheten. Att de måste ha varit mer än bara märkliga - kanske till och med farliga - och att de inte skeppades iväg till en enslig ö helt utan anledning. Men framförallt står det klart: De underliga barnen kan fortfarande vara vid liv. De femtiotalet högst egendomliga vintagefotografier som finns insprängda i texten ger en extra kuslig dimension till berättelsen och gör Miss Peregrines hem för besynnerliga barn till en nervkittlande skräcksaga som kryper in under skinnet och stannar där - länge.

I freaking love the atmosphere and the lore of this book. Sure, not much happen and at times it's a bit confusing but I freaking love everyone, maybe Enoch, not so much, but Emma can burn my heart with her fire and passion and I would be glad

One of my absolute favourite books of all time (and one of tje only ones I have ever re-read). For some reason it just hits me everytime.

           So the first thing that drew me to this book was the cover and I was curious as to see what this was going to be about. 

To start off I liked this book and I liked the main character Jacob. He was interesting. I liked how he was a kid with normal problems and his relationship with his grandfather who told him tales of his childhood. 

I also liked the peculiar characters of this book and how they became so important in his life after a tragedy compared to his family who became distant and didn't know how to 'handle' him. 

My favourite thing about this book was that Ransom used photos throughout the book and how they were relevant to the certain parts of the plot that suited very well.

In preparation of a movie I have too high expectation for, I reread a novel I love so much that I found a way to include it into a homework assignment about “What makes me a writer?” And in celebration of Loop Day, I am finally getting around to posting my review. Fortunately, I did reread it, because, unfortunately, I had forgotten why I loved it so much to begin with. 

It’s a story of a boy trapped between two worlds: one where he is accepted and one where he is not. A boy who loves his grandfather so much that he travels across the world for him. A boy whose family thinks he’s going crazy, when in reality he’s just peculiar. 

It’s not the vintage pictures that tell this story, nor the elegant words that decorate every page, but instead the unique characters that bring the story to life. Each child has a distinctive personality that shines through the dialogue and descriptions. I feel as if I know everyone as if I was one of them. In fact, Jacob may be one of my favorite fictional characters of all time. You know, if I ever sat down and tried to make a definitive list. Though he’s an extraordinary kid, he’s still just ordinary. He has overprotective parents, he had a job, a family he loves but secretly hates. He’s so for the reader to relate to, that it's hard to not love him. 

If you are one of the only people in this world who haven’t read Miss Peregrine’s, then stop what you are doing, open your mind, and just read. Don’t go in expecting something creepy, but instead something peculiar.

I don’t know how I feel about this book? I almost want to use the word underwhelmed. 

It may just be that I hyped it up in my head or it’s that a lot of booktubers hype this book up. I don’t know. But I’m definitely underwhelmed. 

I liked the book enough to continue the series tho! (hopefully they stop with this whole Emma/Jacob thing because it’s weird to me lol.

Not 100% sure how I feel about it. I went in expecting a good horror story filled with historical pictures that would give me the chills. Nope. As another reviewer stated, not really sure who exactly this book is aimed towards. It's written like a fairy tale novel for preteens/tweens, but features characters of a young adult reader. Overall, it wasn't the worst book I've read, but not worth the great status it's achieved.

I thought I was going to lose interest pretty quickly with this book because the action didn't really pick up until about halfway through, but once it did, I couldn't put it down. Very interesting, very original plot with great characters. Can't wait to read Hollow City, the second book in the series.

I heard such amazing things, but for me this was quite the disappointment. On several occasions I just wanted to throw this thing at a wall and be done with it, as it was so boring. I don't know how I survived the first half of this book and was quite surprised that I wanted to know where the story was going, once the story began...about halfway through the book.
I have to say I enjoyed the story, which was unique and really interesting, but other than that there was not much I liked about this book. 
First off, I just couldn't get into the writing style of Ransom Riggs. I struggled quite a lot at the begging, it got better throughout the book, but it still bugged me.
Next, I didn't like the characters at all. Everyone seemed a bit over the top, and although I enjoy such characters from time to time, something was missing here. To me they all seemed too fabricated and somehow not like people at all. Most of the time I was just angry at the characters for doing such stupid things and never making any sense. 
And the 'romance' in here was just unnecessary and somehow just felt wrong. I mean come one, no one in their right mind would do such a thing...

What made me want to give this book any stars was the unique story, other than that this book was just not for me.

I think I would have enjoyed this more if I took my time with it but I wanted to get it done before I saw the movie and I had like 3 days suddenly. 

I like the idea but I feel like I was expecting something very different and much scarier. At certain points it felt like I was forcing myself to get through it and if I had been reading it without a deadline I probably wouldn't have gotten through it.

So I went into this book months after I watched the movie, so of course I already had a preconceived notion of what I thought would happen. I will say that there are quite a few differences, but that will be saved for another segment of my Books V. Movie series. But back to this book

Honestly I thought this book was one of my favorites this year. There were some things that I didn't like, for example some of Jacob's behavior. I can appreciate the fact that he didn't have friends back in Florida, and since he had a falling out with his one and only friend it would make sense that he's a little less social or more sarcastic. Don't get me wrong, the sarcasm is amazing and it actually made me laugh quite often. But there was just something about him that bothered me. He wasn't as brave as I thought he would be, and maybe I just had a lot higher expectations of him from what I wanted to see come out of him. It made it difficult for me to really feel for him, really root for him in every aspect.

Miss Peregrine was an interesting character as well. Seeing her as an old crone, one that has her own sarcasm attached to her with her demeanor and everything else that made me think of her as completely British. For some reason I just imagined her as an older and meaner Professor McGonagall (I doubt I have to say which book series she's from). But unlike the beloved Professor, this first book didn't allow me a chance to really fall in love with her character. it definitely makes me want to know more about her, and I'm hoping that I get that chance in the next two books.

The way that this book read really made me feel like this was meant to be a series. So I think with that in mind, I had to stop and think about the fact that not everything would be answered when I hit the end of the book. If anything, I had so many more questions. Like what is it about the ymbrines that makes them masters of time? How exactly do they reset the loop and do they ever get to sleep? What makes Abe and Jacob able to see the hollowgasts and the other peculiars can't? Did all peculiars come from circuses or at least spend time in one?

Just so many questions.

I hope I get my hands on the rest of the series soon, and be on the lookout for my book and movie comparison where I can write a lot more about my thoughts on the differences. Right now I can't really say much without spoiling it even more than I probably already did.

Ce second tome est tout aussi intriguant, l'histoire est très originale. Toutefois, je trouve le dénouement est très long à arriver et que les péripéties s'enchaînent de manière trop abrupte. Je le conseilles quand même pour son originalité.

For some reason I thought this was a middle grade book, but based on the content it seems a bit mature for middle grade. Interesting and unique story...quite refreshing. I'm interested to find out what happens next since the ending was an open cliffhanger.

This book was not really my cup of tea.
I liked the concept, it's interesting. I loved the photos, they made the story unique
But, the writing just didn't do it for me. Also, I had a little more expectations of the book. I expected it to be a lot more creepy, but I didn't found it creepy.

But, still, I think I will give book 2 one day a chance, because I wanna know how the story ends.
