The Silver Rain
If humanity was forced to decide between doing what is easy to save ONLY the current generation versus doing what is extremely difficult to save future generations, which path would it chose? The answer may seem simple, but it becomes far more complicated when your own survival is in doubt. In The Silver Rain, we follow Lieutenant Conor Rinn's narration to just beyond the late twenty-first century, when a comet was spotted speeding toward Earth. While scientists were able to employ a previously unproven technology called asteroid laser ablation to prevent a planet-destroying direct hit, silver and lead dust from the exploding comet gathered in the atmosphere and rained down over the entire northern hemisphere. The Silver Rain caused complete crop failure in the northern half of the planet, and those living in the developed regions of the world scrambled to obtain as many of the resources in the south as they could. When it's later discovered that the ominous silver rain is slowly spreading to the south, agreements to share resources fail and the world is plunged into a desperate struggle for survival.
