The Snow Queen (Illustrated)

The Snow Queen (Illustrated)

Rare edition with unique illustrations. Hans Christian Andersen was a Danish author best known for writing children's stories including "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling." But he didn't just write short stories, and his intended audience wasn't restricted to children. In addition to his fairy tales, Andersen wrote poems, plays, novels, travel books, essays, and more. He hungered for recognition at home (Denmark) and abroad-and he got it! Eventually. Today, his stories can be read in over one hundred languages. But no matter what language they're in, Andersen's tales have got something for everyone. In them, you'll find beauty, tragedy, nature, religion, artfulness, deception, betrayal, love, death, judgment, penance, and-occasionally-a happy ending. They're complex tales, but since Andersen himself was pretty complex, we like to think that art imitates life. Or something like that. "The Snow Queen" is an original fairy tale written by Hans Christian Andersen The story centers on the struggle between good and evil as experienced by Gerda and her friend, Kai. The story is one of Andersen's longest and most highly acclaimed stories. It is regularly included in selected tales and collections of his work and is frequently reprinted in illustrated storybook editions for children

I knew going into this that it was nothing at all like Frozen because I knew they had very loosely based the movie on this story, but I was still kind of disappointed.

A magical journey following Gerda as she goes to rescue her friend Kay. On the way she meets unlikely allies. Such a lovely tale for winter. I love the message of love conquering all.

Tbh I just read this to finish my popsugar challenge before the end of the year. It was fine. Very simple and basic descriptions, but unmemorable.

I loved this book, at first when I heard that Frozen was based on this book I thought I must read it, and then Audible gave their members a free copy. I can see where there are similarities to Frozen but it is a wonderful story of its own. The little boy who follows the Snow Queens sled is saved by the little girl and the power of prayer. This is an amazing story that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside after reading it. Everyone should give this book a try.
