He pospuesto el libro durante muchos meses y creo que es por una razón válida: la escritura de DFW, a mi parecer, va en contra de los postulados tácitos en los relatos actuales y quizá por eso exige en el lector que a) comprenda o sepa reconocer lo elemental de la cultura norteamericana; b) pueda dilucidar la sátira de la mirada especulativa como un análisis de la sociedad moderna; c) esté dispuesto a explorar la profundidad de un relato que, por poco, se separa de una novela breve contemporánea. Si de por si los relatos del conjunto son un poco (un poco, de nuevo) extensos, no resulta una sorpresa que La broma infinita posea la talla que la caracteriza. En algunos textos me sentí perdido, un poco desorientado, y me vi obligado a releerlos para ver qué era lo que me estaba perdiendo o, en el mejor de los casos, si había sido víctima del absurdo típico en la narrativa de DFW.
